"HOW TO BECOME A CHRISTIAN"
artwork by my husband Gilles
Why Jesus? You know, Jesus is incredibly meek and gentle, and the one
way you can tell that in the bible is He didn't run around shouting that
He was God. so much so in fact that there's alot of people that don't
even KNOW IT. oh if pushed He would say it in not so many words, but clearly
enough if you want to hear. Jesus is God. My favourite scripture is Matt
11:28 - 30 "Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will
give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle
and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke
is easy and My burden is light." I mean listen to that! If the bible had
to be reduced to one sentence I would pick that one. Here's God, who has
taken human form to walk this earth to save us, and there He tells us
exactly what He is like and it is stunningly beautiful and everything
one could hope for in a loving heavenly Father. He is gentle and humble
in heart! Would you have pictured God that way? And when you think of
the bad rap Christianity gets do you think of it being a light easy burden?
You wouldn't believe how Jesus lightens you. And I for one used to leap
at God at the thought of finding rest for my soul. Only GOD can give these
things. Think of all the other religious leaders in the world. What can
they give? A book to read? money? I don't know. Only Jesus died on the
cross as innocent blood beating satan and taking on the sins of the world
as the last and ultimate sacrifice in a spiritual war. Alot of people
find it strange that God required sacrifice, but it really was a loving
gesture on God's part, a sort of stop gap measure. He said life is in
the blood and He allowed us to cover ourselves with another's 'life' to
cover what had gone wrong in our own life so that we could look upon Him
sinless again. In the case of Jesus, the sins are not only covered but
we become righteous. I imagine you are SUPPOSED to feel bad that something
or Someone had to die for your sins. It IS cruel what happened to Jesus,
and if you were the only person on earth, He would do it for you. I mean
imagine, the people in the old testament, just because they did something
wrong, dragging a poor innocent lamb to the alter to die, I'm sure they
felt bad. But it had to be done, because it's hell to be seperated from
God. 2 Corinthians 5:21 "God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us,
so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God." Only Jesus was
raised from the dead to live forever at the right hand of God the Father,
to be with us for good. Is it time for you to choose Jesus?
You may think that what God did for me is strange, but everyone can be
lead by the spirit of God. However, if you have tried to 'get saved' and
expected to feel something, yet felt nothing, you are in the wrong headspace.
Take the INFORMATION you gather from the bible and other good Christian
sources and BELIEVE. Salvation is never dependant on what one feels, but
on what one believes. Salvation is a gift from God and does not depend
on you. Isaiah 1:18 "Come now, let us reason together," says the LORD
. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool." God invites
us to REASON with Him. I for one was very glad of that. It's good to think
about Jesus, and yes, the subject of SIN just might come up. It's not
a very politically correct thing to think about, what with the way we
devour self-help books to elude guilt. But God is a perfect being who
cannot look upon iniquity. So Jesus had to bridge that gap between us
and God. We may think we are pretty good people as far as people go, but
we are far from perfect. Romans 3:23 "for all have sinned and come short
of the glory of God"
Romans 10:13 says "Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved". And just before it; Romans 10:9 - 10 says "That if you confess with your
mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you
believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." Now it doesn't mention anything about feeling anything
or anything else out of the ordinairy, simply to 'believe'. John 3:36 says "he that believeth on the Son has everlasting life".
I know that some people are afraid to become Christians because they think they have to be perfect. You may be afraid you will have to do
some things or give up some things to be saved, but that's not what the bible says. Surely you may want to give up some stuff that holds you back AFTER getting
saved, with God's help, but that is after the fact. It isn't what you do, it's what you receive. Ephesians 2:8 "For it is by grace you have been saved,
through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast." It was Jesus' grace that made
Him come to earth to save us. How wonderful JESUS is, not how wonderful we are.
Having faith however is not an intellectual effort. A little child can have faith, and Jesus instructs us to become like little children.
Matthew 18:3 "And He said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven."
Our Father in heaven made it so simple that often times the learned stumble.
1 Corinthians 1:20 "Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?" Unfortunately for some of us that spent years gathering 'wisdom', God
has a tendency to throw it all in the trash bin and makes things real simple. Simple enough for a child to
sit on Jesus' lap and know all it needs to know, and yet God is an infinite symphony of beauty and we shall never do but love Him passionately
for an eternity.
All that's required to become a Christian is to confess with your mouth and believe with your heart. So I offer you a version of the sinner's
prayer to get you born again:
The Sinner's Prayer
Heavenly Father:
I come to you in prayer asking for the forgiveness of
my Sins. I confess with my mouth and believe with my
heart that Jesus Christ is your Son and Lord over all creation, And that He died on the
Cross that I might be forgiven and have
Eternal Life in the Kingdom of Heaven. Father, I believe
that Jesus rose from the dead and I ask Jesus Christ right now
to come in to my heart and be my personal Lord and
Savior. I repent of my Sins and will Worship You all the
day's of my Life! Because Your word is truth, I confess
with my mouth that I am Born Again and Cleansed
by the Blood of Jesus! In Jesus' Name, Amen.
Did you know that God and His angels celebrate when one of His children come home like that? There's also a scripture somewhere that says
something to the effect that God will skip around you like a calf. But I can't find it. Now, get a bible and read all about Jesus, that's the
first step. Then find a church where the pastor really speaks to your heart. Keep God close to you always, it may be a battle at first, but
I think that's to be expected. Colossians 1:13 "For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom
of the Son He loves"
